Understanding Your Brain & Body Connection

Have you felt stuck in your thinking and habits? Discouraged by the patterns you see in your relationships and work? Wondering why your faith doesn’t feel sufficient when it comes to the change you want to experience?

Growth can be hindered by how your brain processes life as a result of past or present trauma.

Yes, even it was in the past, you may be locked up in a fear response.

Dr. Bruce D Perry, a researcher, clinician, and teacher in the field of neuropsychology, offers a simple understanding of the science of the brain, which provides perspective when change and growth feel blocked.

Perry describes the brain in four different hierarchical sections. The brain stem is what responds to fears moving the body into a fight, flight, or freeze, and sometimes faint or fawn.

The diencephalon is responsible for sensory-motor processing, such as movement and sensations, like cold or hot. The limbic system is where emotions reside, such as feeling afraid, sad, mad, glad. The neocortex is the cognitive region, where thinking and beliefs are formed.

Each of these areas of the brain should function together, but past or present trauma can cause the regions to get muscled up and not function as an integrated whole.

However, patterned, repetitive, and rhythmic relationships and experiences lead to healing. Through working with a trauma-focused coach or therapist, you can identify ways to regulate your body and function with a fully integrated brain, which will lead to breakthrough and whole-life transformation.

When you take this work to a round pen to experience equine-assisted coaching and learning, you’ll experience first-hand how your brain and body are processing life. And with that information, you can uncover how to move forward in emotional and relational health.
