The Liberated Equestrian

A Place for Horsewomen to Experience
Belonging, Breakthrough, and Becoming

Liberated equestrian (1)

Dear Equestrian,

Are you tired? Lonely? Defeated?

Do you know what it is like to stand alone in rejection? Criticism? Shaming?

Have you nearly lost your joy, but can't throw in the towel on your horse?

You are not alone.

Unfortunately, the horse world is full of some of the most unhealthiest people on the planet. Oftentimes, the underlying issue is the hurt other humans have caused. Research shows that many relationally wounded individuals naturally turn to animals, especially horses, for comfort, support, healing, and connection.

While many might say "my horse is my therapist," the reality is that without the right kind of human therapeutic support and healthy human interactions, the patterns of coping and survival shaped in childhood persist well into adulthood. These insecure attachment styles become problems undermining human-to-human connection and interactions.

And so the cycle continues with hurting people hurting people.

It is pervasive in society at large and is the underlying cause of so much of the drama that the horse world is known for.

Maybe you're a victim of this kind of dysfunction.

Maybe you've been wounded by another horse person.

Maybe you feel more alone and isolated than ever before because not only do you not fit in the horse world, but the human world around you doesn't quite understand the burden you feel for the horse you are committed to despite the struggle.

Well, if this describes you, you've found your place among fellow sojourners.

But this is not a #metoo kind of trauma-bonding community. Yes, we will see you. Yes, we will hold space while you heal, because this is a place of belonging. You will be heard as you become part of this herd.

This is not a community of pity parties and mud-slinging. This is a community where we will urge you to acknowledge your pain and find a path forward with the right support in place. Because this community is about a breakthrough for all while changing the narrative about the horse world one equestrian at a time.

This is not a community about traditions and disciplines and shaming each other's views. We are about busting through group-think and traditions that are harmful to humans and horses.

As liberated equestrians, we are committed to becoming the best version of ourselves through understanding a trauma-informed and neuropsychological view of horsemanship and humanship.

Are you ready to join this community of Liberated Equestrians, where you're invited into a space of belonging, breakthrough, and becoming?

If so, drop your email below. You'll be the first to know when we open our doors and we invite you to step inside and experience the freshest warm welcome you ever received.

I can't wait until that time comes.

Lisa Pulliam, the founder of StableMinded.us, is not your typical horsewoman! While her earliest memories include pony rides and playing with her rocking horse, she did not necessarily grow up with horses. As a middle schooler, she had the privilege of going on day-long trail rides with her uncle, with her arms wrapped around his waist as they galloped through state parklands. As a high school and college gal, she participated in riding camps and the club team, but quickly realized the competition world was not for her.

While she dreamed of one day growing up and owning a beautiful bay gelding for herself, that dream did not come true until she hit her late forties and met Kodiak Jack, a 16'2 hand, off-the-track and seven-year abandoned racehorse.

Lisa brings into her horsemanship the perspective of a mental health professional with a passion to help fellow equestrians experience calm and confidence in and out of the tack. She is the author and creator of the HorseClass.com program, Finding Calm: Helping Riders Navigate through Fear and Anxiety, which was developed out of her personal comeback experience utilizing her skills and knowledge as a trauma-informed coach and therapist.

Lisa is a certified Natural Lifemanship Trauma-Informed Equine-Assisted Specialist and Coach, Life Breakthrough Coach, and Highlands Ability Battery Consultant, holds a Master's in Clinical Counseling with a trauma concentration, and is EMDR trained. Through her business, Stableminded.us, she works with individuals, families, and groups providing coaching, therapy, and leadership development for improving overall wellness as well as personal and professional performance to clients online as well as in person at Concordia Stables.

When she’s not serving clients, you can find her balancing her time at the stables enjoying her barn family and beloved Kody, and home savoring the time with her husband of 28 years, all-grown-up children, and being entertained by her beloved Golden Retriever.
