Dear Equestrian,
Are you tired? Lonely? Defeated?
Do you know what it is like to stand alone in rejection? Criticism? Shaming?
Have you nearly lost your joy, but can't throw in the towel on your horse?
You are not alone.
And you don't need to stay in that place, breaking without a breakthrough!
This place is for you . . .
While many might say "My horse is my therapist," the reality is that we really do need healthy human connections, even as horse people.
Yet within the horse world, many of us have experienced anything but healthy.
Well, in fact, that is a problem in the human-only world too.
As a therapist, coach, and equestrian, I have seen it all. And I have felt it all, too.
But true to my survivor-driven nature, I'm passionate about making a difference and not running from tackling a problem when I can envision a solution.
At the heart of the problem, we're a bunch of hurting humans hurting other humans . . . and our horses get caught in the crossfire.
In the psychological world, we can look at these unhealthy and dysfunctional interpersonal patterns as a result of what has shaped us through our upbringing into the present day.
From the impact of our family of origin dynamics to the traumatic events that set our lives on the course of coping and survival, we end up unintentionally living in brokenness begging for breakthrough.
Well, if this describes you, you've found your place among fellow sojourners ready for a new way of showing up in our horsemanship and humanship.
Liberated Equestrian Podcast
Welcome to The Liberated Equestrian podcast and community . . . a place for horsewomen to experience belonging, breakthrough, and becoming.
Hosted by Lisa Pulliam, founder of StableMinded.us, mental health professional, second-season equestrian, and author of Finding Calm: Helping Riders Navigate through Fear and Anxiety, the Liberated Equestrian is devoted to the mission of providing a supportive space where horsewomen can heal, learn, and transform both their horsemanship and humanship.
We'll delve into what it means to be a liberated equestrian as we consider the importance of breaking free from harmful traditions, embracing evidence-based practices, and becoming the best version of ourselves through understanding the neuropsychological aspects of our relationships with horses and humans. We’ll explore topics like trauma-informed approaches to riding, building healthy human interactions, and fostering a liberated mindset that benefits both you and your horse. This is all about mind, body, heart, and soul care for ourselves and our horses, so that we can grow together as a community of emotionally and relationally healthy horsewomen.
So, find a comfortable spot, take a deep breath, and let’s embark on this journey together. Because becoming a liberated equestrian is about being set free and experiencing breakthroughs in every aspect of life.
Listen in to hear about the podcast debuting in early 2025!
Ready to be liberated?
The Liberated Equestrian is for horsewomen ready to experience freedom from the breaking in pursuit of breakthrough and belonging!
This is not a #metoo kind of trauma-bonding community. Yes, we will see you. Yes, we will hold space while you heal, because this is a place of belonging. You will be heard as you become part of this herd.
This is not a community of pity parties and mud-slinging. This is a community where we will urge you to acknowledge your pain and find a path forward with the right support in place. Because this community is about a breakthrough for all while changing the narrative about the horse world one equestrian at a time.
This is not a community about traditions and disciplines and shaming each other's views. We are about busting through group-think and traditions that are harmful to humans and horses, we become the best version of ourselves through understanding a trauma-informed and neuropsychological view of horsemanship and humanship.
Are you ready to join this community of Liberated Equestrians, where you're invited into a space of belonging, breakthrough, and becoming?
I'm holding a space for you! Let's experience liberation together!

Lisa Pulliam, the founder of StableMinded.us, is not your typical horsewoman! While her earliest memories include pony rides and playing with her rocking horse, she did not necessarily grow up with horses. As a middle schooler, she had the privilege of going on day-long trail rides with her uncle, with her arms wrapped around his waist as they galloped through state parklands. As a high school and college gal, she participated in riding camps and the club team, but quickly realized the competition world was not for her.
While she dreamed of one day growing up and owning a beautiful bay gelding for herself, that dream did not come true until she hit her late forties and met Kodiak Jack, a 16'2 hand, off-the-track and seven-year abandoned racehorse.
Lisa brings into her horsemanship the perspective of a mental health professional with a passion to help fellow equestrians experience calm and confidence in and out of the tack. She is the author and creator of the HorseClass.com program, Finding Calm: Helping Riders Navigate through Fear and Anxiety, which was developed out of her personal comeback experience utilizing her skills and knowledge as a trauma-informed coach and therapist.
Lisa is a certified Natural Lifemanship Trauma-Informed Equine-Assisted Specialist and Coach, Life Breakthrough Coach, and Highlands Ability Battery Consultant, holds a Master's in Clinical Counseling with a trauma concentration, and is EMDR trained. Through her business, Stableminded.us, she works with individuals, families, and groups providing coaching, therapy, and leadership development for improving overall wellness as well as personal and professional performance to clients online as well as in person at Concordia Stables.
When she’s not serving clients, you can find her balancing her time at the stables enjoying her barn family and beloved Kody, and home savoring the time with her husband of 28 years, all-grown-up children, and being entertained by her beloved Golden Retriever.
